In todays world Cyberpunk is almost completely different than what it is in the book because alot of people live in space and travel to and from earth.
Most people have their own ship that they can live on in space and travel to different planets, but in todays world you can't really do that because we don't have people living in space just when astronuats go to research and find new things out about the moon.
In chapter one "Gully Foyle is my name and Terra is my nation. Deep space in my dwelling place and death's my destination." Gully is referring to the fact that he has been living in space and they have space wars. Today we don't have anything close to space wars because nobody lives on different planets.
